Monsters, enemies, NPCs, pets in the sky, oh my!

It is no secret a good monster can really make the game, providing challenges that differs from standard pvp interactions.
When time comes for implementation of enemy npcs and the like, I can keep the list up for convenience. Naturally whether the dev would want to include the particular type of mobs or npcs would be up to their discretion.
Without further ado:

Leviathan: A massive roaming monster that would deal instant destruction to any ships caught in its maw. Mine its loose shell while it snakes through the sky, grabbing some valuable resource while hanging on for dear life. An exploit that would require at least two people to perform.

Also naturally I would assume there would be roaming traders some time down the road so I'll add that in anyways.
Nomadic Traders: self-explanatory

List:

Leviathan
Flying Lamprey
Nomadic Traders-Probably not

Feel free to add more!

please note that no NPCs will exist that are sentient and alive, save for very specific ones

But monsters and the like are still in? Assuming you aren't counting them as NPC's as well?

So as I am understanding it, I guess there wouldn't be much of any kind of *existing* society save for one made by the players.

Some kind of flying lamprey that attaches its mouth to ships and feeds off of the energy provided by your core would be pretty cool.

Heh, that would provide unique challenges. Supposedly if the lamprey were to only *directly* attach itself to the core or certain components, it would add a little more consideration to ship building designs.

I would imagine you would have to wait awhile. I don't know when exactly, but it is pretty early in alpha. Right now people ABLE to play it are basically testing some very basic mechanics. As is right now, there isn't a lot to do besides practicing some swinging and building some basic ships; ships though without much render or texture, but ships nonetheless.

FF14 has scripted events called FATES, which are mostly killing mobs or a "boss" (a big monster) until the timer runs out.
